Seeing Hank Willis Thomas
We had the chance to interview Hank at his new show (Kinship of the Soul) at Pace in London a few weeks ago (fangirl moment activated). Their conversation dives into Hank’s approach to art, how he engages with cultural and historical layers, and uses photography and collage as a way to explore identity and social issues. You’ll also hear about his process of transforming photographs into 3D sculptures, his perspectives on the role of artists as mediums connecting the past, present and future, as well as the way we are all activists, even if most of us are sleeping on the job, most of the time. There is never enough time when you’re talking to someone like Hank, but we (hopefully) got to the heart of what makes Hank think. This chat has made us realize how avant-garde his work really is, how ahead of the curve he really is. And how - in everything he does - Hank wants us to think about the powers that are shaping our perceptions - of ourselves and each other. This is a conversation that we desperately need to have right now. It’s relevant, on point and so timely. Our full chat is now live on Seen and we can’t wait to hear what you think! P.S. If you’re in London, make sure to go see Hank’s show, ‘Kinship of the Soul’ at Pace before it closes 21st December.
